Maine State Police Info

Zone 1 Gray Dispatch (156.1500R MHz)

  • Troop A - York, Cumberland, Oxford, & Androscoggin Counties
  • Troop B - Maine Turnpike (also dispatched by Pike HQ in Portland)

Zone 2 Augusta Dispatch (154.6500R MHz)

  • Troop C - Somerset, Franklin & Northern Kennebec Counties
  • Troop D - Sagadahoc, Lincoln, Knox, Waldo, & Southern Kennebec Counties

Zone 3 Orono Dispatch (154.9050R MHz)

  • Troop E - Penobscot & Piscataquis Counties
  • Troop J - Hancock & Washington Counties

Zone 4 Houlton Dispatch (154.6650R MHz)

  • Troop F - Aroostook County

Other Information

  • State Police also dispatch Marine Patrol (1800 #'s) & Warden Service (2100 #'s) units.
  • EMA, DEP, federal units (1700 #'s), & and some local PD's also have access to the system.
  • The present State Police system was constructed in 1974. A new statewide multi-agency digital VHF system has been discussed by the State Radio Advisory Board.
  • Regional PD Nets were established to improve communications between local and county departments and the State Police. They presently see limited use and some are apparently inactive. Most inter-agency traffic is on Statewide Car to Car (154.695 MHz).
  • Maine Forest Service Rangers are dispatched over the Forestry repeater system from three regional headquarters: Augusta, Old Town & Ashland. Rangers respond to all woods fires of significance.
  • CONOPS (Concept of Operations) Interoperability channels introduced in 2006 to meet federal requirements for large incident communications. May be assigned by State Police when needed. State has encouraged all local agencies to adopt their use, however it is unclear how many have done so beyond those already in service (State Fire; Statewide Car to Car).
  • Only 126 of Maine's 492 communities have their own police departments, or other regular police coverage!
