Massachusetts Emergency Management

The Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is the state agency responsible for coordinating federal, state, local, voluntary and private resources during emergencies and disasters in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. MEMA provides leadership to: develop plans for effective response to all hazards, disasters or threats; train emergency personnel to protect the public; provide information to the citizenry; and assist individuals, families, businesses and communities to mitigate against, prepare for, and respond to and recover from emergencies, both natural and man made.

On June 30, 2012, MEMA assumed the responsibility for some of the Department of Conservation & Recreation communications/ dispatch functions. State Control at MEMA will now serve as primary dispatch for the DCR Bureau of Fire Control and State Parks in the West, Central, North, and South Regions. This transfer of responsibility for dispatch comes after several years of planning between DCR and MEMA. This change will result in cost savings but most importantly it will bring 24-hour dispatching capability, 365 days per year for DCR. It also features advanced technology and a more efficient communications system which will provide enhanced interoperability and a more reliable radio network tool for DCR field staff. MEMA has also begun handling dispatch for Mass DEP

In addition to DCR, MEMA also handles Dispatch services for: Department of Fire Services (DFS): Special Operations and Code Compliance, Department of Public Safety (DPS), Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Department of Public Health (DPH): Emergency Response and Nuclear Incident Advisory Team (NIAT), Northeast States Emergency Consortium (NESEC): Seismic activity notifications for New England

On the First Monday of the Month (1900 Hours), various local (City/Town) EOCs test at the same time as the Amateur Radio NETs test with MEMA HQ as well as the Regions.
