DMR Newbie

Finally got into DMR and bought a used HT online and had to go online and register as a HAM for an account to be able to use the Programing Software and Firmware's ( I'm aware of the rules and not asking about help or assistance with programing)

I started Monitoring some Local Business on DMR but Have no luck with the Local W1bos Repeater ( I do live right across from the Charles River and withing the range) i have everything program correctly ( DMR ID and i did register with Radio ID) and spend lots of time online and on YT learning about CPS code plug programing.

do I need to be really near the Repeater to do the Local DMR call ( i managed to program the TS1 and TS 2) and last night was able to hear the local net for New England.

Any feedback would be appreciated .

Welcome to the world of DMR!

The W1BOS repeater has good range (it's atop one of the Boston skyscrapers at about 600'), and IIRC it's only putting out 10 Watts, so if you can hear it, I'd expect you should be able to get into it.

I would try watching the NetWatch page next time you're trying to get into the repeater: http://cb.nedecn.org:42420/CallWatch (this is linked from the "Monitors" page). Often times the issue is something like using a talkgroup on the wrong timeslot. I bet it's hearing you RF-wise and there's some trivial misconfiguration.

The radio isn't an early Baofeng DM-5R, is it? It notoriously did not support DMR repeaters (it was DMR Tier 1 only).

NEDECN also has a mailing list at https://groups.google.com/g/nedecn/about if you need to more overtly discuss programming.

The kid never wrote me or ever responded to the post here. I can only assume he walked out in front of a car or he didn't really ever care that much about DMR.
Hi,

Sorry for the delays in responding as I had to deal with some family emergencies all this week .
I will email you as i definitely want your input.
Thanks all for the feedback and looking forward getting more experience with DMR

Unfourtantley I use the older software MotoTrbo 16.0 build828 so I don't have to deal with the wide band entitelment issues. Otherwise I'd send you one of my code plugs so you could compare but someone on here probably uses 2.0 and can help. https://www.barc.org/dmr-repeater/

John, how old is that listing? NEDECN did a major talkgroup realignment back in November, eliminating UA1, UA2, Region North, World Wide English, and adding all of the out of state talkgroups PTT on TS1.
