Camp Edwards/Joint Base Cape Cod 380 MHz P25 Trunked System

Scott , just wondering are you seeing a default T/G of 65535 (FFFFh) on the data channel ? Every once in a while it pops in on my TRX-2.

DSD+FL doesn't show TG's on a P25 control channel so no to that, and haven't seen it in the event log.

I do show an affiliation with TG12 yesterday at 13:48, but no transmissions.

Currently, not seeing the CC on the JBCC Trunk. This has never happened before.

Interestingly I have seen this happen once as well and should have mentioned it.

That said, I do not show the drop here, so not sure what happened.

Not sure how many people around the cape are paying attention to this system, but it seems to me like I am receiving it better for the last few days. Whether this is conditions-related remains to be seen, but I am constantly seeing less errors when watching the DSD+ stream. I am using the homebrew 380 MHz vertical dipole I cobbled together. I'm seeing a bit more signal on the spectrum display as well.

Still the rare odd messages, such as:

Message 64; Tgt=512 Src=65533

Status 3080; Tgt=2883596 Src=2924033

Affiliation; RID=16777023 TG=40448 ACCEPT

All these at various times over the last 8 or so days, based on the "Checking for updates" message DSD+ produces at about 00:55 each morning.

I see a stronger signal as well when I look at it on my IC-R8600 with a non-resonant antenna.

I'm giving this a break. I've been dedicating a PC to this pretty much since its discovery.

Doing that should surely result in activity that I'll miss starting up. Maybe I'll run it on a scanner instead. I'm amazed after all this time that zero activity remains.

I have the system programmed into my 536 and I listen every time I am in my office. Nothing heard, still 5 bars.

Took a look at this system today, it seems to me that there is an increase in signal level from my location. I'm looking at it with FMPA, which is part of the DSD+ software. "Spike" is definitely stronger than it has been; I'm using the homebrew 380 MHz vertical dipole I built.

Anyone else noticing an increase?

At 11:00 a.m. this morning the signal disappeared. No bars at all on my BCD 536HP. I confirm what Scott observed, the signal had increased. I am monitoring.

Was just about to post that DSD+ didn't show any drop of the CC. Thanks for confirming the signal increase. All of that said still nary a peep.

Well regardless of my above idiocy you know I'm going to continue to monitor this system, and I may have found something of interest. I moved the monitoring from DSD+FL over to my OP25 setup. On OP25 there's an option to view the spectrum around the control channel of the system. This afternoon I started noticing bursts of signals showing up in various different areas in the 380 and 381 MHz range. I confirmed it was real by checking with my IC-R8600 receiver.

They appear as maybe a 1-2 second burst and are landing on many of the frequencies that are shown as being part of the system. There's no data, it just sounds like an open carrier when it happens. I ran DSD+FL to see if it spewed any data when it transmits but it does not. I'm trying to time how often this is happening but I'm guessing about every five minutes or so. The signals pop up one at a time, as one drops another appears shortly therafter.

As I have very little to work with in the ways of P25 systems, maybe someone knows what causes this and can comment. It's happening again at 1716 as I type this.

Chuck, wonder if you can fire up your 8600 and see if you can see them also, looking at 2 MHz between 380-382.

With DSDPlus, try turning on the packet data window in the Window tab. It is possible some data that is not being reported on the event log. Also be sure your console detail level is maxed out. That is Window tab, Console, Console Detail Level. I have no idea if any of that will help but that opens up everything i know to get all the data out.

Well here's some excitement!

CC switched from 380.075 to 381.2125 for a while, and just switched back to 380.075 a short time ago. While 381.2125 was the CC a constant weak signal was still observed on 380.075, and the constellation visual of P25 seemed to indicate it was an actual signal. Interesting....

Secure from General Quarters.
